Environmental Science Abroad
Study abroad experiences give deep insight into other cultures and ecosystems and are great ways to complement your Maryland coursework. Below is just a sampling of the many programs available to you. Please coordinate your study through UMD's Study Abroad office - 1118 H.J. Patterson Hall. Failure to do so could mean you lose your privileges as a UM student, e.g., priority registration, etc.
The following international programs focus on environmental studies:
- Arava Institute - Israel
- DIS - Danish Institute for Study Abroad
- EcoQuest - New Zealand
- School for Field Studies
- SIT Study Abroad
- CIEE Study Abroad
These offer more traditional programs:
- University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) - access to environmental programs varies by university.
- UM Study Abroad - offers unique Winter Term as well as semester and year-long programs.
American off-campus study
The United States is a huge country, with diverse ecosystems and many perspectives on American culture and environmental issues. Consequently, American off-campus study can be another excellent way to broaden your education.
Academic credits from these programs would come back as transfer credits and the experience will get you out of the mid-Atlantic ecosystem:
- Grand Canyon Semester - Northern Arizona University
- SEA Semester - Boston University
- Shoals Marine Laboratory - Cornell and UNH (Summer)
- Wild Rockies Field Institute - University of Montana
