Prospective Students & Admission
Are you passionate about helping the environment? Was AP Environmental Science one of your favorite classes? Have you considered a career in the federal government, consulting firms, non-profit organizations, or outdoors? Do you wish to understand the world’s environmental challenges through a domestic and global lens?
If so, consider majoring in ENSP! The Environmental Science and Policy Program welcomes all students with diverse academic interests and a commitment to further understand climate change, energy policy, water resources and long-term sustainability. You’ll join a highly-talented group of students and faculty who embrace a multidisciplinary education to solve the world’s most pressing environmental issues.
Below you will find information for prospective students (freshmen and transfer); current UMD students who wish to explore ENSP; and newly-admitted students.

NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION
If you haven't already, please make sure you register for New Student Orientation.
Summer 2020 Orientation has moved to an online format. You will be advised and register for your ENSP courses when you attend your Orientation session. Advising and Registration will occur after you've attended the Meet Your College Session with the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

If you are interested in applying to the University, please visit the UMD admissions website. Once there, find the applicable applicant category (freshman, transfer, international) and follow the instructions. Please note that all new ENSP students enter as "Undeclared"; you will choose your concentration later during your advising sessions.
We encourage you to explore the ENSP website thoroughly. You will find information and resources on our areas of concentration, advising services, major requirements and career resources.

To prepare for a successful transition to UMD:
1. Vist the Pre-Transfer Advising Office. The Pre-Transfer Advising Office offers walk-in advising for students who want to figure out what classes in ENSP will transfer over to UMD and what you should consder taking (depending on what you major in here at UMD). They will also advise you on how the transfer process works in regards to applying and how the coursework will appear on your record.
It is best that you meet with the Pre-Transfer Advising Office for advising since that is their duty and area of expertise! We want to make sure you are meeting with all the right people!
2. Use the Transfer Guide for Environmental Science and Policy to help you decide which courses to take at your current institution.
Use the UMD Transfer Course Database to search though a complete list of evaluated transfer courses from a specific institution. The information provided by this Transfer Course Database can help you to determine how some courses at various Institutions will transfer to the University of Maryland.
