Libby Truitt (Marine and Coastal Management) has been named a 2017 recipient of the Friends of Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge Scholarship, which helps “promote the preservation, awareness, and appreciation of our environment.” Three annual scholarships, one each of $1000, $2000 and $3000 are awarded to qualified applicants and can be used for tuition, college fees, books and/or supplies. Libby was one of two (2) University of Maryland students that received this award.
Libby is also an intern at the Chesapeake Bay Foundation where she has helped lead tree and wetland plantings to improve the water quality of the Bay and provide habitat for native animals. Libby’s career path will likely be in the direction of Environmental Law with a dream job as a litigator for the CBF.
